The benefits of healthy eating are these days being given more publicity than ever before and there are good reasons for this. The overall economy is impacted by the number of people who are dealing with health problems such as high blood pressure, which is directly associated with poor eating habits. There are more and more campaigns to try to get people to adopt a healthier lifestyle and all the same it is also easier than ever to rely on fast, convenient food that is not good for our health. It is likely that many people feel it will take lots of effort to eat a healthy diet or that they have to make a large scale change to their way of life. It is possible, though, to make several small changes that can start to make a difference to our everyday eating habits.

Initially, you should be very careful when you are shopping for food that you don’t unthinkingly put things in your shopping cart that you don’t wish to eat. For example, have you ever checked how much sugar and salt are in your breakfast cereal? Consuming a bowl of oatmeal will provide you with the energy to face the day while protecting your heart simultaneously. You don’t like eating oatmeal on its own, you can easily mix in fresh fruits that can provide other healthy nutrients and as such, one small change to your diet has been achieved.

Thus, it should be quite obvious that it’s not difficult to add healthy eating to your life.

The ingredients needed to prepare Laddoo:
  1. Prepare 10 chappatis or bhakris If using bhakri recipe make sure you don’t use salt
  2. Use 1 cup finely grated (gor)Jaggery
  3. Get 1/2 cup ghee or unsalted butter
  4. Use 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  5. Use 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  6. Get 1-2 pinches saffron
  7. Prepare 7-8 finely chopped almonds (I coloured mine red using food colour)
Steps to make Laddoo:
  1. Cook the Chappatis or bhakri for 10 minutes in oven to make them crispy. (170 degrees F for 10 minutes).
    1. Cut the chappatis into small pieces until they are almost powder like. You can use a food processor if you like. Add the nutmeg, cardamom powder, chopped almonds and saffron to the ground chappatis. Save a few almonds for garnishing too.
  2. Heat the ghee and add the jaggery to it. Once the jaggery dissolves switch of the heat and add the ground chappatis. Mix well and once it's cool enough to handle, make round ladoos by hand or use any mould you have to give them a shape. Garnish with almonds and serve them warm or cold. When we were young, we hardly gave my mum a chance to form the ladoos as we loved eating them warm.
