The ingredients needed to prepare Khichdi:
- Get 1/2 cup short grain rice
- Get 1/2 cup lentils (moog daal/toor Dal/masoor daal)
- Prepare 1 medium sized diced potato
- You need 1/4 cup cauliflower florets
- Prepare 1/4 cup green peas
- Get 1/4 cup diced carrot
- Provide 2 green chillies(slitted)
- Use 1/2 teaspoon whole cumin seeds
- Use 1 bay leaf
- You need 1/4 cup chopped onion
- You need 2 cloves garlic
- Use 2 tablespoon ghee/cooking oil
- Use 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Take 1 teaspoon salt
- Get 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
Steps to make Khichdi:
- First wash all the vegetables, rice & lentil properly then cut the vegetables in desired pieces.
- Now In a pressure cooker heat up some ghee/oil and add temper the oil with whole cumin seeds, slit green chillies & bay leaf.
- Add chopped onion once the cumin seeds start crackling & saute.
- Now add whole garlic cloves & saute with the onion, it will brings nice flavor to the khichdi. Then add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder & mix well into the oil.
- After that add cauliflower florets & saute for a while then add all the other vegetables one by one & saute.
- Now add pre washed rice-lentils & mix well with the other vegetables. Saute for 5-6 minutes then add garam masala powder & salt as per taste.
- After that add 5 cups of water & stir well.Now pressure cook the mixture for upto 2 whistle on medium high heat.
- Now take the cooker out of flame & wait until it releases all the pressure. Once the pressure has released open the lid and mix well with the help of a spatula. Khichdi is ready to be served.
- Serve it hot with papad(fried lentil chips), pakodas & some pickle.
