- Take 3 big onions sliced fine lengthwise
- Provide 10 cloves garlic crushed
- Take 1 and half tomato slices lengthwise

- Prepare 3 leaves dry tejpatta/ indian bay leaf
- Get 1 inch ginger finely sliced / paste
- Get 2 carrots diced into small pieces
- You need 2 potatoes diced in big pieces

- Get 1 small cup masoor dal
- You need 1 small cup chana dal
- Prepare 3 tablespoons black urad dal

- You need 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- Provide to taste Salt
- You need 2 dry red chillies
- Use 3 hot green chillies
- Take 1 teaspoon sugar
- Get To be cooked in a pressure cooker
Instructions to make Khichudi / Bengali Dal Khichdi:
- Heat 4 heaped tablespoons of ghee and add the dry red chilli and tejpatta to it.
- Add the onions and saute till light brown
- Add the garlic cloves and saute
- Add all your veggies(potato, tomato, beans, carrot),ginger, green chilli, sugar, turmeric and salt and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add ghee if your pan is drying out.
- Wash all the dals and rice together and add it in the pressure cooker over the other items. Add enough water to cover 2 inch over the dals.
- Pressure cook for 3 whistles. Lower the flame after the first whistle. Let the steam release on it's own once you turn off the gas.
- Once you open the lid, check if you need to add water to get it to the right consistency(like a very thick soup). Boil don't pressure cook anymore. And it's ready
